Sustainability & Ethics
Because our base metal is tarnish resistant, it stops you from throwing out your favorite jewelry “only” because it turned green after just a few wears.
Nanda Jewelry's sustainable mission is to create jewelry that has the fewest impact on our Earth...and your wallet.
But our efforts just don’t stop on providing you with fashion jewelry that actually lasts. We also spend part of our resources making sure our supply chain, offices, packaging choices and daily habits reflect these values.
Being tarnish-resistant is not enough. We are committed to do more.
326L Stainless Steel
Did you know stainless Steel is 100% recyclable? Some of its main components (chromium, nickel and molybdenum) can easily be separated from other materials, making the recycling process easy.
Furthermore, stainless steel is one of the least energy and resource intensive metals: being necessary to dig only up 2-5 lbs. of ore for every 1 lb. of iron and using only about 20-30 MJ/kg of embodied energy (according to an MIT study). And it isn't toxic, by itself.
PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition
When searching for a water resistant solution for our gold coating, we focused on choosing the lowest environmentally impactful one. So, we are proud to be using PVD - Physical Vapor Deposition. When compared with other common options, like electroplating, painting and the traditional wet baths, the PVD plating process does not create any of the hazardous waste.
The gold used in our plating is also recycled gold and we feel so good about that! Moreover, the plating process does not limit the recycling value of stainless steel.
Did you know our packaging is made of 100% recyclable paper.
As part of our zero-waste policy we also reutilize the returned packages when they are in good condition - our warehouse loves being organized - and our boxes are great for that!
We also avoid adding lots of pamphlets with your order...as all of our information is online, we save lots of trees by not printing loads of cards to go with your order.
What better way to make your purchases from the comfort of your home and without having to commute anywhere? By being online, we can collect data that allow us to have a better insight on our audience’s preferences and ,consequently, a better stock management, avoiding excess inventory.
As we support conscious buying, we also include pre-paid return labels. We hope you are happy with your purchase, but in case you need an exchange, we print the label on demand! #savetrees
The benefits of working on an e-commerce basis don’t stop here. For us, at Nanda Jewelry, it gave us the possibility to perform different parts of the process in the same space. We assemble the pieces at the same place as we pack them ready for shipment. Our admin staff works in the same space: we find this to be an excellent energy saver and it drastically decrease transportation hazards.
The possibility to pick up your package at our studio contributes to reducing our environmental footprint, too.
Overall, e-commerce uses 30% less energy than traditional retail.
We love our planet enough to have this in mind in our daily lifestyle. At our studio, all the appliances are Energy-Star rated and 100% of our lighting is LED Simple gestures as the use of an individual reusable water bottle and cleaning products that are VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) free are strongly encouraged.
Zero waste is what we strive for always! Aside from recycling all packaging products, we also don't waste the pieces that don't pass our high quality control standards. Hello discounted sample sales!
By supporting a transparency policy, we are extremely careful when choosing our suppliers. Geographically, we try to keep them close to us as possible, so that we can monitor the practices as effectively as we can. However, we are not always able to have an American-centered basis as of now, so we resort to our producers in China and Brazil, who have vigorous inspections to ensure good labor practices are implemented.
How Can You Do Your Part?
A small percentage of packages are returned due to incorrect shipping addresses. Small mistakes like forgetting the apartment number, or typing the ZIP code incorrectly, can cost the Earth a big price, so we ask that you always double check your shipping details.
Ensure you check our sizing guide before ordering pieces that are size-dependent. Alternatively, you can schedule a consultation with one of our stylists - returned items due to sizing issues are not good on your carbon print!
Accidents happen! If one of your pieces have been mishandled, for example, the clasp on your bracelet opened as it snagged on your sweater, please reach out to us. Don't waste it! We will be happy to teach you how to fix it!
These are only a couple of suggestions on how we can team up to protect the environment. Share your thoughts with us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you think something else can be done. Sharing is caring!
